Just Add Water: 4 Life-Changing New Year’s Resolutions for Kids
Can kids (even young ones) really make and keep New Year’s resolutions? Absolutely! New Year’s resolutions – even for adults – should be about doing things to help you become the best version of yourself. At Goldfish Swim School, we’re kind of partial to all things water, so we thought it fitting to give you some life-changing resolutions for kids where you can just add water (literally and figuratively):
1. Make waves
Remember the old Proverb that kids should be seen and not heard? While there are certainly many times and places for kids to be quiet and obedient, it’s OK to teach kids that it can sometimes be appropriate to make waves in life (and how to go about it respectfully).
What does it mean to make waves in life? To speak up when necessary – like when someone is being mean to your child or someone around them. It means not being afraid to make a splash: Not being too timid to express an opinion when needed. Making waves means taking big leaps, even when there’s fear.
2. Dive in with confidence
It’s never too early to instill confidence in your kids. One fun way to do so is to teach them to dive right in! Just like when swimming, things can appear overwhelming – but, if they just dive right in, they’ll soon see how quickly they become acclimated to their new surroundings and how it really wasn’t so bad after all.
This year, help your kids keep their New Year’s resolution to dive right in – whether it’s in regard to homework or that big school project, or another problem they’re hesitant about tackling. Remind them they can achieve anything they desire, and give them the confidence to know they can.
3. Ride the wave
Sometimes you ride the wave and it’s one long, fantastic journey – and sometimes that wave comes crashing down around you, with water splashing in your face. But, no matter what, you have to get back up and ride the next wave to see what happens.
Kids can learn persistence and determination by vowing to ride the wave this year, in all of life’s endeavors. Take swim lessons at Goldfish Swim School, for example: Getting frustrated or scared by not being able to learn that new swim stroke on the first try? No problem, just ride the wave and they’ll get there. And you’ll be there to celebrate with your kids when their persistence and determination pay off and they advance to the next level!
4. Life is one big pool
You want your kids to be happy, and to look on the bright side of things. You want them to be a glass-half-full kind of person who sees and appreciates the good in life – but how do you teach that to young kids? By showing them that life is just one big pool, and we should all be having fun in it!
Life is more fun when you view it like a pool. Take friendship, for example. Sure, swimming around in the pool of life by yourself is enjoyable and necessary at times, but when you gather up everyone else nearby you can have more fun and share laughs – and even help each other, learn from each other and support each other obtain extraordinary results.
